Greg Smith: Power firms make bright investments in generation game
Writing for the New Zealand Herald, Devon’s Head of Retail Greg Smith looks at the debate surrounding the country’s big electricity companies, which have been accused of generating ‘scarcity’ and prioritising ‘excess dividends’ over the past decade. He puts forward another side to the argument with dividend pay-outs more reasonable on a free cash flow basis, and with the electricity firms powering ahead with renewable investments. New Zealand’s renewable generation in fact sits at around 84%, the fourth highest in the OECD.
